Jayalalithaa likely to return as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on May 17

In a major turn of fortunes for the AIADMK, the Karnataka High Court set aside the judgement of a special court convicting former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and three others in the 18-year-old disproportionate wealth case. Delivering his judgment on the appeal filed by the convicted, Justice Kumarasamy cleared Jayalalithaa, Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran of all charges of corruption in the case.

With the verdict, decks are cleared for Jayalalithaa to return as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu - a post she had to relinquish on September 27 last year following her conviction in the case. Sources in the AIADMK told Headlines Today the 64-year-old leader may return as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on May 17.
