PLA Cadres Ambush Assam Rifles in Manipur-Nagaland Border

Imphal/10 June/2015:A heavy exchange of fire between armed cadres, suspected to be from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and 44 Assam Rifles ensued following an attempted ambush in Ukhrul district early on Tuesday. 
The gun battle between the militants and Assam Rifles team started at about 6 am in Konkan village area, about 25 km east of Chassad Police Station under Kamjong subdivision. The encounter lasted about half an hour, police sources informed. However, no casualties were reported in the encounter. 

The encounter site is about 130 km from the Ukhrul district headquarters. The police sources added that it was an attempted ambush on the Assam Rifles team which was a foot patrolling party. Security forces suspect militants belonging to PLA, the armed wing of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), to be behind the attack.
