AR-NSCN (K) exchange fire in Kiphire district

KIPHIRE: NSCN (K) cadres on Sunday wee hours reportedly launched an attack on the Assam Rifles camp located at Anatonger Village under Kiphire district some 25 km away from Kiphire town.

According to Kiphire police, the firing started at around 3.10 a.m. In retaliation, Assam Rifles also volleyed several rounds of gun-fire that lasted for over 10 minutes, police said. No casualties were reported till the time of filing this report.

Later, a joint team of IR, Kiphire police, VG and NGOs rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. 

Meanwhile, IGAR (N) PRO in a communiqué said that the NSCN (K) cadres fired upon their post, which it said was located in midst of the village. PRO suspected that one cadre was neutralized and one seriously wounded.

PRO said that the firing by insurgents endangered the lives of innocent civilians residing near the AR post. 

It has only reflected the true nefarious design of NSCN (K), to disrupt the peace and tranquillity in the State at the cost of innocent civilian lives, PRO added. 

United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP) has informed that the issue regarding banning of goods carrier trucks to Kiphire from August13, by NSCN (K) operation command Kiphire, has been amicably settled. 

In a press note, USLP vice president K. Tsilise Sangtam has informed all that the trucks could ferry goods to Kiphire.


Meanwhile, USLP acknowledged the NSCN (K) operation command Kiphire district for adhering to public request and appealed to shun violence in the district.
