UG killed in encounter, KRA (U) president held in Manipur

IMPHAL:A suspected cadre of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA), a Kuki based militant group under suspension of operation truce was Tuesday killed in an alleged encounter with troops of 27 Assam Rifles in Manipur’s interior Tamenglong district.  A report said that the encounter took place at Khulbung village under Tousem police station of Tamenglong district this morning. The identity of the slain cadre was yet to be established but a report quoting villagers identified him as one Lalgin (34) and operating at Barak Circle of the district and involving in a recent incident of kidnapping of workers of railway construction in the district for ransom.

On the other hand, troops of Jwalamukhi Battalion of Senapati Brigade under Red Shield Division nabbed two active cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Army (United) in a counter insurgency operation on October 18. 

A statement of the PRO (Defense Wing) Imphal, said that the two KRA(U) cadres were apprehended from Pongmol village of Senapati district and were identified as Lamkhapao Chongloi (31) and Thangkholun Chongloi (44), both residents of Khenjang village of the district.  A 7.65 mm pistol loaded with four live rounds of 7.65 mm and Rs 2500 recovered them. The statement added that Lamkhapao Chongloi is the president of UG group of KRA(U) under KNO fold and has been involved in various nefarious activities of the group.  They were nabbed while planning to abduct workers of a contractor responsible for the repair and maintenance of NH-2.  He has been handed over to police for further investigation, the statement added.
