Employees picketing hamper normal functioning at RIMS

IMPHAL: Normal working at administrative block Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was on Tuesday hampered following a picketing called by contract employees. Due to the picketing, DPC for appointment of staff under die-in-hardness scheme slated for Tuesday was postponed.

The situation was settled only after seven representatives of the agitating employees met with the authority.  Grade-IV employees appointed on contract basis in the institute have been demanding regularization of their services along with hik in their salaries. Representative of the employees told media that around 285 grade IV employees were serving at various departments and sections of the RIMS including in the hospital of the institute for the last around 25 years. However, without considering regularization of their service, the authority had recently notified for recruitment for appointment of 134 different posts of the institute on regular basis excluding 12 posts reserved for filling up under die-in-hardness scheme.

The recruitment drive initiated by the authority was against an assurance given by the medical superintendent of RIMS. The superintendent on December 1, 2015 that employees appointed on contract basis would be regularized if any vacancy arises in the institute.

However, in the recent notification of the recruitment there was no provision from the RIMS authority for regularizing the contract employees, the representative alleged.

The contract employees were demanding regularization of their services or fill them to the advertised 134 vacant posts.

They threatened to intensify their strike by closing the OPD and administration block of the institute if their demand is addressed by the authority.
