NSCN (I-M) condemns 35 AR; salutes Senapati people

DIMAPUR: NSCN/GPRN has saluted the people of Senapati town for democratically demonstrating the spirit of Naga nationalism which had projected the Naga national movement as a mass based and people’s movement.

In a press release NSCN (I-M) through its MIP has termed the detaining of Naga army officers who were on peaceful duty on September 28 by of Major Rahul and the Jawans of 35 Assam Rifles, Maram Battalion under Senapati Brigade as “highly condemnable”, an activity vitiating the peaceful atmosphere.

The MIP said, the Indian security forces arresting PK Akas, Kashung and N. Elvis and labeling them as extortionists involved in nefarious activities was “highly questionable”.

The released said those arrested by AR were on official duty to monitor law and order situation for peaceful maintenance against destructive elements who occasionally created unlawful activities including threat to civilian lives such as bombing etc.

It maintained that the detained Naga army officers were never indulged in tax collection as was alleged by AR.

Rather, the release said, AR should hold peaceful atmosphere for co-existence than create unwanted problems.

The release further said, NSCN (I-M) on its part was fully committed to respecting the new relationship that had been worked out between India and Nagalim. It urged all the concerned to be contributive in creating a peaceful atmosphere. NSCN (I-M) strongly condemned the irresponsible act of 35 AR for using “brute force and third degree torture”, which was indicated by the broken legs and torturous marks all over the bodies of the detainees.

The group extended sincere appreciation to people of Senapati, civil societies, Naga People’s Organisation Senapati, Senapati District Women Association, Senapati District Students Association and Senapati Karong Women Association for their timely intervention and standing up to voice against the injustice meted out to the Naga people. It added that their bravery and valour and spirit of Naga nationalism which was demonstrated must be emulated by all the Nagas.
