Sharmila calls for positive changes

IMPHAL:  Manipur’s iconic activist Irom Chanu Sharmila, who floated a new political party to take on the ruling Congress in the upcoming Assembly polls in the State, attended a Sunday Mass at Imphal City Evangelical Church located at Mantripukhuri near here today.

Addressing the gathering before the service, 44-year-old Sharmila said, “There is a serious need to bring positive changes in Manipur.”

Urging the people to be part of the change, she said, “I am overwhelmed to attend the Sunday church service. We can achieve our goal only through divine intervention.”

On October 18, Sharmila, accompanied by her supporters, announced the formation of a new political party – Peoples Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA).

Besides Sharmila, who will be contesting from Khangabok and Khurai constituencies, the party may put two more candidates in Mayang Imphal and Yairipok constituencies. PRJA Convenor Erendro Leichonbam and social worker Phundreimayum Najima have announced their intention to contest Thangmeiband and Wabagai constituencies.
