Total bandh in Liangmai and Rongmei areas

SENAPATI: The Liangmai Naga Council (Manipur) and Rongmei Naga Council (Manipur), while directing the Liangmai and Rongmei people not to attend the United Naga Council (UNC) sponsored ‘First Conference of the Naga Village Authority of Southern Nagalim,’ have announced today to impose a total bandh from 6:00 am of October 18 to 12:00 noon of October 19 in all Liangmai and Rongmei inhabited areas.

In a joint statement made available to Newmai News Network this evening by Thuankubui Pamei, President, Rongmei Naga Council (M) and R. Machundoubou, President, Liangmai Naga Council (M), both the apex tribe bodies said that “the Liangmai Naga Council (LNC-M) and Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur (RNC-M) had been requesting to grant affiliation to the fold of United Naga Council (UNC) for the last three/four years but our humble request was turned down, and as such, we have taken the decision to boycott the activities of the UNC for the past two/three years now.”

As such, both the bodies have directed the people of Liangmai and Rongmei not to attend the conference organized by the UNC on October 19 at Yaikongpao Village Local Ground, Senapati. “All the chairmen of Liangmai and Rongmei villages are directed not to attend the said conference. Anyone violating it shall be seriously viewed by the respective councils,” both the bodies warned.
