Manipur: Girls’ hostel at Lamka catches fire

IMPHAL: The old girls’ hostel of Lamka Government College, New Lamka on Thursday caught on fire, the main source of fire is still unknown and however the fire was extinguished later in the afternoon.

The fire broke out at around 2:30 pm but it was put under control by collective effort of fire brigade and 25 Assam Rifles. Fire brigade team from Moirang also reached the spot and helped in extinguishing the fire.

Two water tankers of fire brigade were used to extinguish the fire and it was backed up by another two tankers from 25 AR.

Eventually everything was under control by 4 pm. Fire brigade team from Moirang also reached the spot and helped in extinguishing the fire.

As per sources, fire was believed to have been caught from adjacent Damkam Bazar side. A gas cylinder was also exploded while the team was dousing the fire but no casualty has been reported so far.

It may be mentioned that the burnt girls’ hostel has been left unused for almost 40 years. There are 13 rooms in the hostel which was said to be partly occupied by some students of the college who stay with their parent.

During the incident no one was present and remaining rooms are occupied by Lamka driving school and New Lamka youth club.
