2 PREPAK (Pro) militants held in Manipur

IMPHAL: Manipur police commandos Thursday arrested two PREPAK (Pro) militants and seized IED making materials from their possessions during a counter insurgency operation in Imphal East district. 
The cadres have been identified as Ningthoujam Yamba Singh (36) Keirao Awang Leikai and Mangdengbam Shamu Singh (53).
Police source said that Yamba, who claimed to be an Indian army personnel was later found to be a cadre of PREPAK (Pro).
He brought the IED materials from Myanmar on November 11 and assembled the same at the house of Shamu of the outfit on November 12.
Police said that they planned to plant the IED along NH-2 (Imphal-Mao section) at Pheidinga. 
The two along with the IED were handed over to Irilbung police station for further necessary action, police source added.
The arrest of the militants with the IED was amidst the security measure being taken up across the state, particularly in twin capital districts and the venues of the upcoming Manipur Sangai festival slated from November 21.
As part of the security measure, police have been conducting a series of mopping operations at sensitive places in the last few days. 
In one such mopping operation conducted in the surrounding villages of Keibul Lamjao National Park, police detained three persons.
