AMSU condemns police action against MSAD at New Delhi

IMPHAL: The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has expressed strong condemnations against the Delhi security forces for arresting students of MSAD who were protesting at New Delhi against the arrest of journalist, Wangkhem Kishorchandra.
Dissenting voices which are raised against the State and the Central government have been gagged as if there is an undeclared emergency, and this has been truly shameful and unfortunate, said a release signed by information and publicity secretary, Roshan Golmei.
After former staff of ISTV, Kishorchandra was arrested for expressing his opinions and later released on bail by the court, he was again arrested by slapping NSA, it said. It can be considered that the ruling government is acting on its whims, the release alleged.
AMSU vehemently condemns the actions of security forces against the students of Manipur Students Association Delhi (MSAD) who were protesting at Manipur Bhawan Sadar Patel Marg, New Delhi in a democratic manner against the arrest of Kishorchandra, it maintained.
AMSU further condemns the arrest of president, Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students Murshad Ali and president, MSAD Vewon Thokchom and many others who were preparing to hold a protest near Manipuri Bhavan, Chanakyapuri, Delhi, it continued. The release further said that the students have the right to protest which is granted by constitution of a democratic country.
The actions taken by the Indian government who claims to be a the largest democratic nation, to subdue to the student’s who were preparing to hold a democratic protest, and arresting of the leaders of DAMMS and MSAD, was utterly shameful before the entire world, it stated.
The actions to put restrictions upon freedom of speech and expression are inhuman and they against the system, it further stated. When fascism no longer exists in the 21st century, running the nation in a Dictator style will not be successful in silencing the voice of the people, it further stated.  The State government will take the right initiative by making an apology regarding yesterday’s incident and AMSU will extend its support to further agitations undertaken by MSAD, it added.
