Kidnapped construction officials released

KANGPOKPI: Three officials of a company engaged in national highway improvement works were released unharmed by their abductors on Tuesday afternoon.

The three officials of Shivalaya Construction Co Private Limited were abducted from their workplace at Sekmai in Imphal East district by suspected Kuki militants on November 29 last.

The kidnappers reportedly released the three officials on the intervention by Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi.

Mention may be made that since the kidnapping of three officials, state police commandos have launched a massive search operation in Motbung area of Kangpokpi district.

The release of the three officials came barely a day after Manipur police announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 to individual(s) who provide information about the kidnappers.

The police identified the main accused as Songkhogin Kipgen alias Kenedy alias Hegin alias Gin alias Joshua (38), the commander-in-chief of KNF-MC and Ngamkholen alias Lelen alias Joel (43) a member of the same faction.

Speaking to media persons, president of Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district, Seikhomang Khongsai said that the innocent villagers of Phailengkotincuding its chief and the adjoining villages have been working hard for the safe release of the abducted trio.
He appealed the state government to acknowledge the tireless efforts and contribution of the innocent local populace for the safe release of the trio. The innocent villagers have been reeling under intense hardships and grievances since the past many days owing to the deployment of heavy security in the area but despite of all their grievances they had been engaging themselves in searching the abducted trio day and night without rest, he added.

“Their efforts and contribution in helping the state government and the security forces in finding the abducted trio safe and sound is great and the government must acknowledge such contribution on the part of the civilian more particularly in such critical condition”, said Seikhomang.
He added that even the women of the surrounding areas kept aside their daily busy schedule and joined the search party in the jungle.
He also appreciated the security forces deployed in the areas for maintaining discipline and eschewing from harassing innocent civilian despite of the tense situation.

He further said that the Kuki Inpi and CVOs Kangpokpi are happy that the abducted trio have been released within the ultimatum and asserted that such anti-social activities should be condemned by all fronts and put collective efforts to curb such activities in the society.
